South Yorkshire-based creative studio and print house FYI has revealed how its recent investment in an HP Latex R2000 printer has allowed it to significantly increase capacity and offer more flexibility to its wide range of clients.
Operating across bases in Leeds and Sheffield, FYI focuses on the entertainment industry, specialising in working for hospitality, drinks brands and events. Counting energy drink giant Red Bull and craft beer brand Beavertown, as well as bar chains Albert’s Schloss and The Alchemist among its clients, FYI is constantly working on all manner of promotional projects.
Print forms a large part of what FYI does in terms of the services it offers to clients. Having reached capacity with its existing equipment, and with the volume of printing on cardboard increasing, the company took the decision to invest in a new, high-performance printer.
After viewing several machines from a range of manufacturers, FYI picked out the HP Latex R2000 as the ideal solution to bolster its print offering, taking delivery of the new device in June this year.
The hybrid machine – which can print onto a wide range of both rigid and flexible substrates – has a top printing speed of 86sq m/hr in outdoor quality mode. With a 2.5m maximum printing width, the HP Latex R2000 can print in seven colours: black, cyan, light cyan, light magenta, magenta, white, and yellow.
“We felt the HP Latex R2000 gave us the best value for the budget we had,” FYI Director Tom Buxey said. “We loved the hybrid setup and the ease of switching between rigid and roll substrates.
“It’s dramatically increased our capacity just in time for our peak season during the summer, which has allowed us to keep up with demand and turnaround requirements, which are always tight with customers.
“We also really liked the fact there is no wastage of ink that ends up in landfill from purging heads, and that all consumables are sent back to HP for recycling free of charge.”
When purchasing the new machine, Tom and the FYI team also had future growth plans in the back of their minds. Tom explained that the successful installation of the first HP Latex R2000 has led the company to consider investing in a second machine to further boost capacity and enable FYI to become even more flexible and agile.
“The possibility of installing an additional HP Latex R2000 alongside our current machine is something we are considering as it would ensure we have the best flexibility in terms of moving jobs between machines, as appropriate,” Tom said. “We would be able to continually print work for our range of clients with no downtime.”
